10 Ways to increase your productivity in the New Year!

The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals. – Melody Beattie

As I do every year, I am challenging myself to improve my lifestyle and increase my productivity. To go after and actually achieve my ambitions while maintaining a healthy, fun and adventurous lifestyle.

I’m going to list 10 ways I am looking to improve myself, increase my productivity and reduce stress.

1 – Write your goals down

Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible. – Tony Robbins

The first step to achieving your goals is to write them down. Get a whiteboard you can hang on the wall and write your goals down. Then hang it where you will see it. We need to have a constant reminder of the things we really want so we don’t get caught up in the little procrastinations of life.

2 – Get rid of that TV Subscription

All I do is sit at home and watch Netflix – Kyrie Irving

We don’t realise it but Netflix easily makes it possible to sit in bed for hours binging on shows and movies. We waste hours and hours; plus nearly £100 a year. There are so many more important things we could be doing.

3 – Commit to Exercise

Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live. – Jim Rohn

It’s said over and over how crucial exercise is. Overcome that mental barrier and commit to exercising throughout your week. The benefits are substantial and you will feel more awake, more energised and more motivated let alone healthier.

4 – Organise a Work v Relaxation balance

You will never feel truly satisfied by work until you are satisfied by life. – Heather Schuck

Creating a good balance between getting work done and still doing the things you want to do is hard. But if you can organise and stick to a schedule that gets your work done while giving you time to see friends, go out, or even take a nap; then you’re winning.

5 – Start Eating Right

Health is like money, we never have a true idea of its value until we lose it. – Josh Billings

Just like exercising, watching what you are putting into your body is essential. Eating correctly puts you physically and mentally in the best position to be productive. It makes you happier and y’know eventually it’ll even help you live longer.

6 – Adventure or Indulge once a month

Life is either a great adventure or nothing. – Helen Keller

I need a change of headspace to inspire and reenergise myself. Once a month go and do something exciting or different. Treat yourself – get out of town, go somewhere new, do that Groupon you’ve wanted to do. Re-ignite your passion.

7 – Start Reading

A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one. – George R.R. Martin

My wisest friends have always told me that if you want to be the best you can never stop reading. It’s so easy to switch on Friends or How I Met Your Mother that we forget to read. Reading will transport us to a world much more vibrant and offer us information far more valuable. Never ignore all that reading has to offer.

8 – Stop the Social Media

What is interesting is the power and the impact of social media… So we must try to use social media in a good way.  – Malala Yousafzai

Social Media is an incredible tool. But it is also an incredible time waster with some negative implications. You can scroll through for hours getting jealous and down beat at all the fantastic things other people are doing. Or you can use it sensibly and use the extra time to become the person everyone else is watching.

9 – Stop Impulse Spending

Financial freedom is available to those who learn about it and work for it. – Robert Kiyosaki

One of our biggest stress points is finance. Especially for me as a student. But it hit me the other day, I wanted to get my car washed, £12 right… Then I thought oh crap I could do that and guess what I saved £12. Be smart, set financial targets, budget, and save. Knowing you are financially stable takes immense pressure off your day to day.

10 – Ensure everything you do has Purpose.

The purpose of our lives is to be happy. – The Dalai Lama

In everything you do make sure it is working towards your purpose and what makes you happy. Challenge yourself to not just blob through life because you can’t be bothered. Give yourself purpose and as you achieve the little things they will build int0 bigger, greater achievements.

Challenge yourself, challenge your mindsets; and start to see results.
